Ema and the Black Jaguar is a breathtaking family film about the story of a friendship between a wild animal and a girl.
Ema, a six-year-old girl who lives in the Amazon jungle with her scientist parents, befriends a jaguar cub. When poachers hunt its mother, the coal-black jaguar is left all alone. A kind-hearted girl takes in the helpless 'kitten' and names him Houp (Hope). Unfortunately, the poachers soon become responsible for a tragedy in the girl's own family: left alone, Emma's dad can no longer be in the jungle and returns with his daughter to his native New York.
In the city, the girl slowly adjusts to civilisation, but she cannot forget the beauty and freedom of the jungle. And so eight years pass. But suddenly, an old family friend informs her that poachers are once again targeting Emma's only remaining jaguar in the jungle. Without even hesitating, the teenager decides to go to her childhood home and do everything she can to protect her "hope".
Before she can figure out how to outsmart the poachers, the girl faces another challenge: will Houp recognise her after all these years? After all, the black jaguar has long since ceased to be the cute kitten it was, and is now a full-grown beast of prey. Will they be able to renew their friendship?
