Jazz Cellar 11 presents Ukrainian jazz artists - Gumenyuk / Seredin Quartet. These are some of the most prominent artists of Ukrainian origin who have successfully established themselves in the Canadian (Gumenyuk) and German (Seredin) jazz markets.
Bogdan Gumenyuk, musician, producer, composer, educator and founder of the Ukrainian music label LabelWhoAble. He received a Fulbright Scholarship and in 2013 received a Master's Degree in Jazz Performance from the University of the Arts (Philadelphia). He has won several international music competitions and shared the stage with Ukrainian artists such as Jamala, Okean Elzy and Mad Heads. He has also performed with renowned jazz musicians from Western Europe and North America, including Curtis Fuller, Benito Gonzalez, Café, Pierre Boussaguet, Sam Harris, Ameen Saleem, Xavier Davis and Kevin Mahogany. He has performed and taught internationally in many countries including Ukraine, Germany, Poland, Latvia, Turkey, Canada, Greece, Serbia and the United States. Bogdan is currently based in Montreal and is actively involved in the music scene as a lead instrumentalist, accompanist and producer.
Yuriy Seredin is a pianist and composer, one of the most prominent representatives of the Ukrainian jazz scene. His music combines contemporary jazz, minimalism, polyphonic formats and is at times almost cinematic, constantly contrasting on the edge of human drama and meditation; his compositions are very personal, often referring to specific life situations and personalities.
After the outbreak of the war, he was forced to stay in Berlin, where he had already been studying, in order to pursue his musical and charity activities. He recorded and performed with Nasheet Waits, Ben van Gelder, Seamus Blake, Satoko Fuji and others.
