Event description

Anton Chekhov's "Uncle Vanya" is one of the most emotional plays of all time, in which the genius playwright revealed the very essence of human life, the greatest desires and bitterest disappointments. This play about people's wasted lives can accommodate all genres - comedy, drama, tragedy... Everything is even more in the performance of the Vilnius Small Theater: the celebration of life will explode here like a loud firework, and the sting of rejected love, unfulfilled hopes and dreams will leave a big lump in the throat.

The Slovenian director Tomi Janežičius, who is creating the play with an international team, is an expert on the dramaturgy of Anton Chekhov, who constantly returns to these plays that skillfully interweave the absurdity and the reality of life. Tomi Janežičius is famous throughout Europe as a master who creates particularly emotionally affecting and at the same time intellectual performances. Janežičius creates plays and gives lectures in Italy, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Bulgaria, Russia and other countries, and his plays tour all over the world, are performed at the biggest European theater festivals (Wiener Festwochen, Avignon, Kunstenfestivaldesarts, MESS, etc.). ). The director has won several international theater awards, including the BITEF International Theater Festival, "Golden Masks" and others.

Although Janežičius' works are distinguished by original directorial interpretations, he could not be called a director-builder in any way. Rather, he is a true experimenter and explorer of human nature. For him, the most important thing is not to stage a performance, but to establish a relationship with people - with the actors, the entire creative group and finally - with the audience. During rehearsals, the director, who is also a certified psychodrama therapist, uses the psychodrama method to bring the actors together, to create a safe environment for them to open up and create.

I'm not sure if the world needs another Chekhov production. It is much more interesting for me to find a relationship to Chekhov, to the story, to the roles. Today, it is more important than ever to build "Uncle Vania" and for one more reason - the extremely widespread ideology of success. We only talk about achievements, being happy, being successful, achieving goals… The pressure is so high. This play - "Uncle Vania" - shows the opposite situation. We may fail, but accept it as normal. At the same time, to show that the ideology of success and winning is simply too artificial.

What is success or failure? The topic of failure is especially important here. On YouTube, we can find millions of videos depicting various failures. We like to watch it, we enjoy it, we laugh. When we see other people getting together, we feel a certain relaxation, don't we? A. Chekhov knew how to talk about it. It would be wonderful if we could laugh at people who fail but love them at the same time.
