Colin Stetson - alto and bass saxophones
April 22. COLIN STETSON, a living saxophone legend, will give his first solo performance in Lithuania! The air that bursts out of this musician's lungs, after piercing the instrument, turns into incredible cascades of sound. Colin's music raises many questions. How is this possible? Is it really the saxophone we hear here? Is there really only one person playing here? The answer to all of them, although very hard to believe, is YES. Stetson is smashing all possible stereotypes about saxophone music and music in general with a sledgehammer!
C. Stetson started his musical journey with classical lessons, but over time the ferociously talented dude has jumped into the experimental waters. The epic New History Warfare trilogy was born, which has written the saxophonist's name indelibly in the glorious annals of music history, and given him widespread coverage in publications and portals such as The Guardian, Pitchfork, The Quietus, The New York Times, The Washing Post and others.
Fenomenal in technique and bursting with crazy ideas, Stetson is a singular phenomenon on the 21st century music scene. This is evidenced not only by the saxophonist's aesthetic and ambitious solo works, but also by Stetson's versatility and demand. His saxophone parts have been heard in most of the globe. As well as working extensively with avant-garde masters such as Mats Gustafsson and Evan Parker, Colin has also played with or has played with personalities and bands such as Tom Waits, Arcade Fire, Bon Iver, Feist, Laurie Anderson, Lou Reed, Bill Laswell, LCD Soundsystem, the National, Fink, Cult of Luna, and even The Chemical Brothers.
After the release of the album "When we were that what wept for the sea", dedicated to his father and heard by music lovers, Stetson comes to Vilnius with a special programme "The Love It Took To Leave You", an introduction to the musician's soon-to-be released new album. The performance will be accompanied by a set of lighting and video installations specially created by Stetson's team. Be prepared to have your ears flooded with dizzying waves of sound and your eyes treated to a spectacular light spectacle!
The event is partly funded by the Lithuanian Council for Culture, Vilnius Municipality, M-Finance UAB
