Air de Cour dance rhythm
Court Music in 17th Century France
In the concert programme Air de cour, the Chiaroscuro ensemble presents the beauty of the music of the French courts of 17th century France through elegant Baroque dances and the French genre of air de cour. From songs with lute accompaniment, to viola da gamba, harpsichord and the beautiful sounds of the flute, this is live music from the time of the French monarchs Louis XIII and Louis XIV. "With this programme, we aim to reveal the gallantry and sophistication of French music, inviting the audience on a poetic journey through the Baroque era."
This year, Chiaroscuro celebrates its 10th anniversary. It was founded in 2014, although the performers had known each other for many years. All three members of the ensemble - Ieva Baublytė (long flutes, gothic harp), Rūta Vosyliūtė (soprano), Vilimas Norkūnas (harpsichord, organ) - have completed their specialised studies in Early Music in different countries (Switzerland, Italy and Austria). The performers were brought together by a common desire to develop in Lithuania the knowledge and experience of Early Music acquired in Western Europe and to share the beauty of this music. The ensemble's projects include well-known performers such as Saulius Lipčius (lute forte and baroque guitar), Ieva Baltmiškytė (theorbo, lute, baroque guitar), and in this project Justyna Rekść-Raubo (viola da gamba).
The ensemble's name, chiaroscuro, means "light and darkness" in Italian. The conveyance of strong feelings, emotions and contrasting moods through light and darkness is widespread throughout the art of the Baroque era, from Caravaggio's paintings to the recitar cantare style singing in the music of Giulio Caccini, Claudio Monteverdi and others.
We invite you to listen to the regal beauty of French Baroque music at the Trakai Voke estate!
