Danish music phenomenon Efterklang will perform in the capital this winter
Music agency 8 Days A Week announces another concert in the capital. The first concert of the calendar winter. Danish music phenomenon Efterklang is confirmed to arrive in Lithuania on 5 December. Efterklang, who are constantly pushing the boundaries of dreamy chamber pop music, return to Vilnius to share reminders. One of the leaders of the indie classical movement, the Danish cousins of Arcade Fire and Grizzly Bear, dubbed by Pitchfork as the "red-headed cousins of Arcade Fire and Grizzly Bear", are turning over a new leaf on their sonic journeys.
Celebrating their 20th anniversary this year, the band has finally released a new single "Getting Reminders". Alongside a very nice documentary "Efterklang: The Makedonium Band" and a big European tour announced. As many as 32 live shows have been announced for this tour. The first concerts in Denmark are already sold out, and Efterklang is expected in Vilnius in early winter.
Tickets for Efterklang's concert in Vilnius will go on sale on Monday, 25 March, but Efterklang fans can save money and get advance tickets at a discounted price already today. Why delay?
Collaboration and community have always been the main directions of Efterklang's moral compass. The group is constantly looking for new ways to engage meaningfully with its audience, to be inventive and engaging. "We don't want to play for people, we want to perform and make music with people," says band member Rasmus Stolberg, who has a lot of friends in Lithuania.
"The latest single "Getting Reminders" is like a flash of light. It's like a domino effect of emotions, where a simple reminder, like a photo, a word or a love you've met, suddenly frees your mind," explains Casper Clausen, another member of the band, "I can really feel a dark and very politicised force tearing us apart. I want to remind myself that there is a space that exists beyond and between us, where we are free to go and meet each other there."
The warm sonic tapestry of the intimate single is beautifully complemented by the trumpet of Zach Condon, leader of the Beirut project. The band's collaborators range from violinist Peter Broderick and Nils Frahm, seen in Vilnius, to the brass section of the Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra and the 70-girl choir.
Since the turn of the century, Efterklang has recorded a number of critically acclaimed albums (e.g., "Magic Chairs was voted European Independent Music Album of the Year at the IMPALA Awards) and have toured all over the world, presenting a sound world that innovatively fuses elements of pop, indie-rock, post-rock and electronic music.
The band has continuously strived to break with convention and involve the audience in the creative process. From the Efterkids music education support initiative to the formation of audience choirs, they are constantly looking for moments of togetherness.
About Efterklang
For the past two decades, Efterklang have been one of Denmark's foremost chamber pop acts. The band's name translates from Danish as "memory" or "echo". The core of the band, consisting of three childhood friends, Mads Brauer, Casper Clausen and Rasmus Stolberg, has remained unchanged since its formation. The trio is regularly accompanied by guest musicians for live performances. For example, on the Piramida tour, Efterklang played with an orchestra, with Budgie from the legendary Siouxsie & the Banshees behind the drums.
They have been tested by major festivals, spectacular chamber music venues and major labels. The band's albums Tripper, Parades, Magic Chairs and Pyramid have been released by The Leaf Label and 4AD. Efterklang's latest recordings have been entrusted to another label, City Slang, whose client list includes some familiar names from the 8 Days A Week honour board.
Efterklang captivates its fans with spacious compositions. Their work is very much suited to the big screen and is highly cinematic. "Efterklang are a regular presence on the cinema screen, appearing in An Island (dir. Vincent Moon), The Ghost of Pyramid (dir. Andreas Koefoed) and Efterklang: The Makedonium Band, presented at this year's prestigious CPH:DOX film festival in Copenhagen. The latest work is a fascinating journey through the world of North Macedonian music and the behind-the-scenes of the creative process.
The musicians go beyond the world of Efterklang. In 2012, they joined forces with drummer Tatu Ronkko from Finland in the project "Liima", which has toured the Baltic States several times. Together with other composers, they worked on the opera LEAVES: The Colour of Falling, and collaborated with the Belgian baroque ensemble Belgian B.O.X. "Efterklang frontman Casper Clausen has also released a solo album Better Way.
In 2021, they presented their then-released album Windflowers in Vilnius. The recordings and concerts of this album featured a well-known musician from Lithuania, Indrė Jurgelevičiūtė, who, among many other projects, plays in the band Merope.
We are looking forward to another classic and high quality concert in the capital.
