Event description
In this exhibition, contemporary jewellery makers reflect on the links between the cosmos and the work of Stanislaw Lem, one of the most prominent 20th century writers, fantasists, futurologists and philosophers. "At a time when earthly existence seems more fragile than ever, artists are once again turning their gaze to the cosmos, literature and the inner self. Although the cosmos signifies what is out of our reach, it has always attracted people's gaze and stirred the imagination. On the other hand, the jewellery works, although small in size, if we look closely, we can find a cosmos of ideas," says Dr Jurgita Ludavičienė, the exhibition coordinator. The International Contemporary Jewellery Exhibition explores the cosmos and presents the works of 97 artists from Poland, the United Kingdom, Germany, Finland, Australia, the Netherlands, Estonia, Spain, Japan and Lithuania, including internationally renowned authors and artists. The travelling exhibition is organised by the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Art and Design in Wrocław. The exhibition has already been presented in Gdansk, Wrocław (Poland), Mariaheide (The Netherlands) and is now coming to Vilnius. Further exhibitions are planned in Vienna, London and Houston. The Museum of Applied Arts and Design (Arsenalo st. 3A, Vilnius) will be open until 7 April.
