2024 marks the 20th anniversary of Lithuania's accession to the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO). To mark this important anniversary, an outdoor exhibition "Powerful because United!" was opened next to Kaunas Castle to showcase the NATO countries, the importance of the organisation and Lithuania within it. The exhibition was prepared by the Ministry of National Defence of the Republic of Lithuania and the National Museum of Lithuania and presented on the occasion of the NATO Summit in Vilnius in 2023. The exhibition is an opportunity for the public to learn more about the organisation, its mission and its member countries. By visiting the exhibition, Kaunas citizens and visitors will have the opportunity to learn more about the military forces of NATO countries, the reasons for their accession to the Alliance, their participation in joint military missions, and, finally, to get a glimpse into the everyday life of the soldiers serving in Lithuania. The exhibition is located next to Kaunas Castle, one of the most important defensive objects of the GDL. Built in the 14th century, the castle was a strategically important element of the defensive system of the rivers of the Nemunas and the Jura rivers, and the exhibition on the present-day defence forces and the themes it develops are symbolically revealed in its setting.
