Historically, the glorification of masculine power - ancient gods, classical heroes, warriors or athletes - is often intertwined with the glorification of war, aggression and violence. This is well embodied in the famous Torah, referred to in the title of the play. He can make thunderstorms and still lives on as a superhero in Marvel comics and films, always depicted with his Mjölnir, a hammer with an incredibly short handle.
In VanThorhout, Alexander enters the stage as Thor, carrying his hammer Mjölnir. The relationship between object and performer soon becomes ambiguous, as it does throughout Alexander's work. When is there no longer the strength to control the heavy hammer and it takes over, becoming uncontrollable? What happens when these images of power disintegrate?
After a number of group choreographic works, this time Alexander Vantournhout returns to the stage alone.
