Algimantas Kliauga's canvases always captivate the viewer with their vivid pictorial images, expressed through luminous colours and the tectonic structure of the painting, formed by vigorous brushwork. The artist's ability to speak through colour and to find the most appropriate plastic solution to the motif to be painted would have been enough to ensure a long, successful and steady career as a painter. Eventually, however, the challenges of his work began to go beyond the traditional limits of expressive colourist painting. For some time, Kliauga intensively painted landscapes of Lithuania's surroundings, using a rich palette to convey the characteristic moods and ethnic spirit of the region in a decorative manner. The need to get to know his native country better and to understand it in the context of common cosmopolitan laws encouraged him to expand the field of knowledge, to collect diverse information and to compare and analyse it. This process took several years and was not based on book or virtual experience - the artist experienced everything first-hand, seeing it with his own eyes, travelling to different countries, visiting museums, walking in nature, communicating with people. Each land brought new sensations, provoked turns in pictorial expression and expanded the space of the artist's worldview. Spontaneous impressions eventually merged into a winding chain of creative explorations, leading to the idea of universal knowledge of the world. In his search for its key, the painter delves into cosmological symbols, anthropomorphic signs, and the symbolism of colours and shapes.
