The exhibition features photographs by artist Andrew Miksis from BAXT, a project that has been documenting the lives of Lithuanian Roma for 20 years. This exhibition is a unique opportunity to reflect on the situation of Roma in Lithuania and Europe from an artistic, historical, social and political perspective. "BAXT invites you to critically review the prejudices associated with this community, to look into different points of view and life experiences. Andrew Miksys met the people portrayed in the portraits during two decades of travelling throughout Lithuania, from Vilnius to Žagarė. The photographer's gaze is focused on fundamental humanity: the photographs capture the expressive living environment of the posers, full of hints of everyday joys and hardships. Miksys does not idealise the people he photographs, but seeks to reveal the personality of each one. The artist proposes a critical look at the need to define people exclusively by their nationality and invites us to reflect on how stereotypes applied to an entire community affect the lives of specific individuals. The exhibition will be open at the Žagarė Synagogue (P. Avižonio g. 7A, Žagarė, Joniškio r. municipality) until 15 September.
