Event description
The Bank of Lithuania's art collection is little known or even seen. This exhibition at the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania is a unique opportunity to see a small part of the almost 200 works of art of the Bank of Lithuania, which are being presented to the general public for the first time. The exhibition features the best works of inter-war and contemporary Lithuanian artists such as Petras Rimša, Antanas Žmuidzinavičius, Justinas Vienožinskis, Augustinas Savickas, Jonas Švažas, Adamas Galdikas, Juozas Mikėnas, Dalia Kasčiūnaitė, and others. The aim of the exhibition is to open up to the viewer, to engage in a dialogue with the public. The title of this exhibition suggests this. From the very beginning, the art collection of the Bank of Lithuania has been (and still is) built up as a collection to meet the needs of the institution. It is not intended to turn the Bank into a museum or an open, publicly accessible gallery. The principles of the collection are in line with the tradition of central banks in many European countries: works are acquired to decorate interiors and create an aesthetic environment. The exhibition will be open at the Palace of the Grand Dukes (Katedros a. 4, Vilnius) until 18 May.
