Event description
As the Klondike Gold Rush gets underway, a young man leaves his home in California to try his luck. On his journey north, he finds not only a vein of gold, but also wild adventures, friendship and love. This is one of the best comedies of all time, featuring the legendary boiled shoe dinner, the bread loaf dance and the hut teetering on the edge of a precipice. Critically acclaimed in its day, The Gold Rush remains one of Chaplin's most famous works. The original soundtrack will be performed live by the St Christopher's Chamber Orchestra in a film that has delighted audiences young and old for a century. Director's biography Charlie Chaplin (1889-1977), an icon of the silent film era, is best known as Valkata, a naïve and endearing character who clumsily weaves in and out of random situations, recognisable by his shabby suit, black cauldron and cane. Valkata appears in many of his most comic and popular films of the period, including Valkata (short, 1915), The Little One (1921), The Gold Rush (1925), The Lights of the Big City (1931), and The New Times (1936). About the St. Christopher Chamber Orchestra The Vilnius City Municipality St. Christopher Chamber Orchestra (Artistic Director and Chief Conductor Modestas Barkauskas, Honorary Conductor Donatas Katkus) is renowned for its versatility, professionalism and artistic imagination.
