In the first part of the concert, you will hear a coherent and melodic half-hour improvisation - an electronic suite inspired by minimal music such as Steve Reich's works. Paul Maasen aims to surprise even people who are not familiar with carillon music with this mesmerising piece of music, which will be complemented by lighting effects.
The second part of the concert will feature harmonious jazz. Festival-goers will hear Paul's own arrangements of Beatles songs, pop tunes and contemporary jazz standards.

Summary of Euripides's Tragedy:
An unusual stranger (actually the god Dionysus) is leading a group of followers known as the Bacchantes. Disguised as a man, he comes from Asia to the city of Thebes. Pentheus, King of Thebes, strongly opposes Dionysus and the Bacchante cult he leads, with their festive orgies. Strange things begin to happen in Thebes and Pentheus plans to punish Dionysus for it. However, Dionysus persuades Pentheus to attend one of the orgies disguised as a woman. At the hysterical orgy, Pentheus' mother, Agave, does not recognise her son but thinks he is a lion. She and the other grocers kill Pentheus and behead him. While carrying his head back to Thebes, Agave's father brings her back to reality and she realises that she has killed her son. Dionysus now appears as the god he really is to punish Pentheus' family for their unbelief.
