"The title of the exhibition may signal my change as an artist, the end of a phase and the beginning of a new one. This exhibition is different from the ones that came before. It is no longer about wanting to please, about the exaggerated claim to like, about the exhausting thought of whether the works all fit together and whether I can fulfill the idea I have conceived, or whether it is too controversial after all. There are no more hidden mischievous jokes about the world around us and no more me smiling and nodding my head at a compliment. This series of works, and the public withdrawal, is a kind of resignation from the way I have positioned myself over the years in making and presenting these works. It is a surrender, a refusal to be liked by everybody and to paint funny pictures. In a way, I am raising my middle finger. But I am also raising it to myself, because of the fatigue of thinking, exhaustion, lack of self-control and anxiety caused by processes that I cannot control. During this time, new works have emerged, their themes have remained within the boundaries of social-personal-attitudinal problems, so some of the old approach remains, it's not an absolute self-murder and a new formation. So I divide everything in the exhibition into two parts: the personal and the general-reflective. Alongside the personal unique experiences, you will also find the reasons for these experiences. I hope that through me and through my thoughts, you will be able to find your own feelings." (Ben Liandzberg)
