Enhanced with scenery and costumes, Balletto di Milano's Carmen is confirmed as one of the most anticipated productions of the season. Carmen, beautiful and unconventional, passionate and desirable, challenging anyone who wants to subdue her, and Fate, so well described by the music's ubiquitous leitmotif, are the protagonists of this exceptional Balletto di Milano version. A mesmerising face in which Carmen will realise that the only way to live the life she wants is to bow to him, to Fate, and to accept the imminent death announced by the cards. This is the confrontation/encounter between the gypsy character who controls the story from the first scene. It is Fate who first meets Don José and writes Escamilla on Carmen's path, revealing himself through the symbols of the cards (love, betrayal, death) to arm Don José's hand and, in the finale, to bring Carmen with him.

Don José, Torero Escamillo and Micaela are the other main performers in this ballet full of gripping choreography, from the famous Habanera to the many lively dances by the Gitani, Soldati and Sigaraie ensembles, set to music by Georges Bizet.

Tradition and modernity also exist in the vibrant climate of Marco Pesta's original set.

The production does not betray the expectations of tradition, staying true to Prosper Mérimée's narrative and to the famous opera by Georges Bizet.
