February 5, 2025, 6 pm. "Contextuality of the Bible in Lithuania until the End of the Eighteenth Century". The book, written by renowned Lithuanian scholars, is published by the prestigious publishing house Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht (Germany) on the topic of the contexts of the Bible's functioning in multiethnic and multi-confessional Lithuania. The book is published in the series "Eastern and Central European Voices", devoted to the problems of Eastern and Central European theology and religious studies, compiled by Dr. Kristina Rutkovska, Professor of the Faculty of Vocational Theology at the Faculty of Vilnius University and Rajmundas Pietkiewiczius, Professor of the Faculty of Pontifical Theology at the Faculty of Vocational Theology, Wrocław, Poland.
This book presents Lithuanian research on the historical and socio-cultural contexts of the Bible and the ways in which it functions in the Lithuanian literature from its origins to the 18th century. The authors' studies focus on the modes of religious communication, the dissemination of religious and social ideas in the works of theologians, the functioning of biblical texts and the principles of their reproducibility. The problems of translating the Bible into Lithuanian and Slavic languages are reviewed, the influence of other languages and cultures on the formation of the Lithuanian language is considered, and the issues of editing and publishing religious writings are discussed.
