Egidijus Buožis, jazz pianist, composer, producer and professor of music at the Jazz Department of the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre. He has mastered a wide repertoire: from well-known jazz standards to original contemporary jazz compositions with elements of be-bop, hard-bop, cool, fusion, acid and ethno jazz. During the concert he will perform his own original jazz compositions. We invite all jazz fans to spend a great jazzing spring afternoon together at the manor!
Egidijus Buožis was born in 1965 in Kaunas. He became interested in jazz at the age of 12. In 1983 he graduated from the M. K. Čiurlionas Gymnasium of Arts and in 1988 from the Lithuanian Academy of Music. While still a student, he won the first prize at the International Jazz Improvisation Competition in Vilnius in 1984.
E. Buožis has given numerous solo piano concerts, performed with the State Symphony Orchestra and the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, as well as with some of the most renowned jazz artists in Lithuania and abroad.
In 1995 he released his first album of his own jazzy-pop style music, Town of Love. In 2000, he and Valerijus Ramoška (trumpet) recorded a CD of jazz standards, Solos and Duos. The album was rated 5 out of 5 by the most prestigious Lithuanian music magazine "Gramofonas" for music and sound mastering. In 2002 Egidijus Buožis started a series of spontaneous jazz improvisation concerts "Impro Vizijos" together with the most famous Lithuanian performers. In 2003 he was nominated "Jazz Interpreter of the Year" and awarded the "Golden Disc" by the Lithuanian Musicians' Union.
In 2005 Egidijus Buožis delighted jazz lovers with his new album "At First Sight". Buožis performed compositions with Valerijus Ramoška (trumpet, flugelhorn), Eugenijus Kanevičius (double bass) and Darius Ružis (drums). In 2007 a new album "Spontanica" was released, recorded by E. Buodis and saxophonist Petras Vyšniauskas. This album contains completely spontaneous compositions recorded during a concert at St. Catherine's Church in Vilnius. Egidijus Buožio's solo album "ONE" was released in 2011, recorded during his concert on 18 December 2010. The album was released in Vilnius on January 18, 2010. This album contains jazz standards, several original compositions and one spontaneous improvisation.
In 2015 Egidijus Buožis released the album "Pictures". It was produced by the great Scandinavian jazz professionals Caecilie Norby and Lars Danielsson. The album was produced together with Arve Henriksen, Vytautas Sondeckis, Stefan Pintev, Matthias Gronroos and Tommy Holmgren. The album includes several Lithuanian folk songs (registered as cultural heritage by UNESCO), a Danish folk song and original compositions by Caecilie Norby and Lars Danielsson. In 2015, Egidijus Buožis also entered the Guinness Book of World Records for performing the longest spontaneous jazz composition in the world (72 minutes). The composition was performed on 9 April 2015 at the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania in Vilnius.
