If we could choose only one double bassist in the entire history of jazz, the first one would be the American double bassist and composer Charles Mingus. Why? Well versed in both traditional and modern jazz, Ch. Mingus became a leader of various ensembles and under the influence of a wide range of musical styles, from blues and gospel to flamenco and contemporary academic music, he gradually found what later became known as the Charles Mingus style.
