Emilija LATĖNAITĖ - text, direction and four characters;
"DUETTISSIMO": GLEB PYŠNIAK (cello) AND DALIA DĖDINSKAITĖ (violin)
In the mono-performance "When You Want to Live, But You Don't Know How to Live", actress Emilia Latėnaitė embodies four characters from different epochs, countries, and social classes in search of their own self. Their situations reveal that times are changing, but the most important questions for human beings remain the same.
The play features Tarquinio Merula, Alessandro Stradella and music by the famous Duettissimo - cellist Gleb Pyšniak and violinist Dalia Dėdinskaitė.
"This is a bright play about the longing for the other and the encounter with oneself. It's about moments when you want to live, but you don't know how. I don't want to impress with effects or form, but to create an atmosphere of sensitivity with the power of acting and live sound, so that every audience member can meet, feel and enjoy a long-ago self."
The original characters were based on real historical figures, but then I wanted to keep that just for me as a source of inspiration. Because I don't have the goal to recreate an exact historical documentary and to render it. History for me is a way, a tool to realise that you are just a part of a continuum. It's easy to get lost, to think that I am just me. There was a lot before me, and after me, there's a lot to be done... That's what the story is about. What is man without history? We all have a different personal relationship with history, like with God, and that's why His themes will be there..." - E. Latėnaitė
