Event description
Speech with sign language translation
The creative team met with deaf centres in Šiauliai, Kaunas and Vilnius and interviewed several groups of deaf people - the deaf, the deafened, the stunned and the deaf. The creators tried to understand how they experience sound and silence? What is the daily life of deaf people like? What is their relationship with hearing people? And how is it possible to combine two different worlds?
The condenser hall of the Museum of Energy and Technology used to be a continuous humming noise, but now it is silent and rusty. It is a place that is no longer working, but once was. It is like the past of the deaf community, where oppression and attempts to hide the deaf community were prevalent. Stepping into this hall is like stepping into human hearing, which was once a never-quieting factory, but is now just a dusty museum basement.
Actresses from the Vilnius Centre for the Deaf's folk theatre "Mimika" will use gestures to tell the stories of the deaf people's collective experiences, and the ensemble of the new vocal music, "Melos", will tell the stories with their voices. Nijolė Karmazienė, Neringa Andreikėnienė
New vocal music ensemble "Melos": Gabrielė Jasiūnė, Lina Valionienė, Neringa Kaminskaitė
