Hymns appropriate to the Catholic faith 17th century Hymns printed by Vilnius Jesuits Many 17th- and 18th-century Catholic hymns can be traced back to medieval hymns in Latin. Hymns in Lithuanian are often adaptations or rewrites of Latin or Polish works, although there are also original hymns whose authors are unknown. In 1646, the first book of Lithuanian hymns "Hymns suitable for the Catholic faith" was published. published by the printing house of the Jesuit Academy in Vilnius. It is believed that its author is the Žemaitsian Catholic priest and scientist Salamonas Mozerka Slavočinskis (c. 1624-c. 1660). During the late Baroque period, the tradition of Catholic hymns flourished and developed, and Slavočinski's hymns were constantly reproduced and reinterpreted. 19th-20th centuries the formed tradition of Lithuanian folk chanting is also closely related to the poetic tradition of these hymns.
The concert is dedicated to the 700th anniversary of Vilnius
