Lithuanian audiences are in for a special musical event - the renowned Hamburg Symphony Orchestra to perform in Vilnius
The Hamburg Symphony Orchestra, a member of the elite of orchestras in Europe and around the world, is coming to Lithuania for an exceptional concert. The orchestra, which has been active for almost seven decades, will turn Vilnius into one of the musical capitals of Europe on 24 October. The concert will be conducted by Sylvain Cambreling, one of the most renowned conductors of our time, who has been leading the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra for six years. The concert is also unique in that the orchestra will be accompanied by the world-renowned pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard, who will perform a piano concerto with the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra in the second part of the concert. This special evening will take place in the LVSO's newly refurbished Concert Hall, where for the first time an elite European orchestra will be able to experience its lauded acoustics.
The orchestra is led by Sylvain Cambreling, who succeeded the LVSO in 2017.
The current artistic direction of the Hamburg Philharmonic Orchestra is largely due to the creative ideas of its Principal Conductor, Sylvain Cambreling. The renowned French conductor is known as an interpreter of classical, romantic and even baroque music (Jean-Philippe Rameau is a particular favourite). Among his many recordings are recordings of major symphonic works by Ludwig van Beethoven, Hector Berlioz, Anton Bruckner, Antonín Dvořák, Carl Orff and other classical composers. Cambreling is also an acclaimed opera conductor, having conducted at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, La Scala in Milan, the Vienna State Opera, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Salzburg Festival and others. He has also served as music director of La Monnaie in Brussels, the Frankfurt Opera and the Stuttgart State Opera. Under his direction, the Frankfurt and Stuttgart Operas were named Opera Theatres of the Year by Opernwelt magazine. He also conducted the renowned contemporary music ensemble Klangforum Wien for many years. He has also performed with the Vienna and Berlin Philharmonic Orchestras, the San Francisco, Cleveland and Montreal Symphony Orchestras, the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra of Tokyo, the legendary Ensemble Intercontemporain, and many other renowned contemporary music ensembles. Since becoming Principal Conductor of the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra (a post he will hold until 2028), Cambreling has brought his vast experience in classical and contemporary music to the orchestra, and the orchestra's concerts have consistently received the highest praise.
