Latvia. Valka City Theatre Bertolt Brecht MOSCELLAR VESTWES
Directed by Aivars Iksel, A Bourgeois Wedding is one of the most progressive and unusual plays of the 20th century. The wedding is the most important and happiest day in the life of the newlyweds. Everything has to be perfect: the bride has to be the most beautiful and flawless, the groom has to be trustworthy and decisive, the guests have to be cool and the parents of the newlyweds have to be moved to tears. But beneath the surface, the perfect wedding image becomes an eccentric caricature of itself. Brecht was well versed in the Bible and often used moral didactic motifs in his work. The play is based on the play "The City Wedding" and explores the seven deadly sins. The mocking caricature clearly shows the longing for sincerity, which is so lacking in today's society.
