The images painted on the canvases of the exhibition "Portraits III", or in some cases even as if inscribed on them, seem to break out of the frames, climb down the walls and become artefacts revealing the phenomenon depicted in space. The extension of the thoughts expressed by means of painting with spatial objects or objects that try to fit into the frames is a movement that has been matured inside for a long time, a movement that has been searched for and searched for. In some cases, this is further expanded by the accompanying texts of the writer Sara Poisson. Portraits III is a continuation of the concept and expression of the exhibition Portraits from a year ago. Already then, I. Mika was interested in breaking out of the traditionally perceived contours of the genre, and was concerned with the idea that a portrait can be not only a concrete person or a living being, but also a phenomenon or an abstraction. This time she chooses to create portraits not only of individuals, but also of phenomena or ideas - phenomena such as time or our sensory relations are, as it were, personalised, made more open to human communication and dialogue. Thus, this exhibition is like a reflection of the artist's chosen genre, revealing new and unexpected ways of its expression. Having hitherto painted mainly portraits of specific individuals or life phenomena, she has sought to portray not the external form, but rather to reveal the essence, mood, atmosphere or her personal relationship in her paintings. Nowadays, however, the artist freely interprets the genre, choosing ready-made objects or instinctive details for the creative expression of her images. The exhibition will be on view at the A. and P. Galaunis House-Museum (Vydūno al. 2, Kaunas) until 29 December.
