In the 4th Kaunas Literature Week, poets Gvidas Latakas and Artūras Valionis talk about Kaunas in their lives and texts. They are interviewed by poet and poetry translator Aistis Žekevičius.
GVIDAS LATAKAS (b. 1972) was born in Telšiai, since 1998 he has been living in Kaunas, where he studied painting. An active artist and art teacher, Latakas has published four collections of poems. His latest book, Islands (2022), was awarded the Jotvingiai Prize "for its distinctive contemporary mythology, unadorned linguistic reality, poetic play and engaging literary peripeteia".
ARTŪRAS VALIONIS (b.1973) was born in Druskininkai, grew up in Kaunas. He studied sociology in Vilnius and Warsaw, and received his PhD in social sciences from the Polish Academy of Sciences. He has published six collections of poetry, a poetry collection and an electronic book of small essays. In 2013, Approximately Three was selected as the poetry book of the year. Her poems have been translated into more than 10 languages. The poet is constantly looking for new forms of expression, collaborating with jazz musicians and academic music performers. This year Valionis's new book of poetry, "Sąnašos | Dėl viso pikto", was published.
