Willy Russell WOMEN AND THEIR HUSBANDS a two-part play based on Willy Russell's play "Shirley Valentine"

Once a woman in her own right, Shirley Valentine is now a homemaker facing a mid-life crisis. She spends most of her life between four walls, mostly alone: her children are grown up and scattered, and her husband spends almost all his time at work. Shirley Valentain lives in memories of what she used to be and is caught up in the daily routine, in domestic arguments with her husband, and her best interlocutor is the kitchen wall. When a friend is about to go to Greece after winning the lottery, Shirley jumps at the chance to go together. During the trip, she begins to see herself and the world around her through different eyes and decides to change her life.

The play "For Women and Their Husbands" is based on the play "Shirley Valentain" (1986) by the famous English playwright Willy Russell. The author's works have been staged on the world's most important theatre stages, have been adapted for the screen and have won various awards.

The play "For Women and Their Husbands" is a story of a woman's life and self-discovery. As Ligita Kondrotaitė, the director and actress of the play, says: "The situation in the play is often recognisable to women. More often than not, we are in denial: it's not going to happen to us. You can call it a comedy, but this comedy will provoke more than just laughter. And yet, it is a drama with a very good ending and subtle humour."

Already hailed as a modern classic, this incredibly funny and gripping play has become a sensation in London and New York, winning the prestigious Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Comedy and an Oscar nomination for actress Pauline Collins for her performance as the lead actress in Lewis Gilbert's film Shirley Valentine (1989). The production was a memorable benefit for the talented actress Ligita Kondrotaitė on the stage of the Juozas Miltinis Drama Theatre.
