Following the same commitment to authenticity that drove his 2021 album My Lullaby, Roy has honed his unique sound on Life Distortions - a track that reveals the totality of Jonathan's evolution as a person and performer. While the album contains elements of the artist's work that made his music popular at the beginning of his career, the sound on Life Dimensions seems more real than anything the Canadian has ever done before.
A great representative of the new sound direction is the single "Stay in Bed and F*** (While the World Burns)", a retro-styled Motown song with a contemporary R'n'B backbeat that adds a sharpness to his heated vocals.
Working with revered musician/producer Brian Howes (Hinder, Skillet, Nickelback) and his long-time drummer and collaborator Marc Beland, Jonathan put together the writing team for Life Distortions. Tee (Drake, Alessia Cara), Stevie Aiello (Thirty Seconds to Mars, Of Mice & Men), Drew Polovick (Auston, Friday Pilots Club) and Heavy (lovelytheband, Dirty Heads) also contributed to the project.
Backed by people he trusts, Jonathan is on his own path and wants his fans to experience with him what the future holds.
"I think people connect with what's real," he says. "People are feeling the lie detectors. I play what I love in songs. It's trying to combine all the inspirations and dress them up in my own way. I feel like an old-fashioned cat curating this weird pop-alternative niche and I love it."
