KADRI VOORAND authentic melodies with Mihkel Mälgand (Estonia)
Event description
Authentic music talent from Estonia Kadri Voorand performs in Lithuania for the first time
Kadri Voorand is an Estonian singer, songwriter and showcase artist adored both in Estonia and around the world, and is invited and welcomed at all venues, including the Tallinn Philharmonic, and at music festivals around the world. Her unique blend of traditional music, folk, jazz and improvisational pop music, and her heartfelt stories during her concerts, make her one of the most authentic performers on the European stage today. At the end of October, K. Voorand and Mikhel Mälgand (double bass, guitar) are coming to Lithuania in October. The duo will give three exclusive performances in Vilnius, Klaipėda and Kaunas.
K. Voorand has won almost all of Estonia's top music awards, has won the Estonian Music Awards four times, and has collaborated with a wide range of acclaimed musicians, including renowned conductor and composer Kristjan Järvi, and pop music artists such as NOËP.
In 2020, she signed with ACT, one of Europe's leading jazz labels, which has opened her up to international festivals, from London to China's most important festival, The Beijing Nine Gates Jazz Festival. Although her work and performance is classified as jazz, she attracts a much wider audience than jazz fans thanks to her highly personal and open musical narratives and her amazing all-embracing voice. During her performances, Kadri likes to involve the audience in her stories and make them feel part of them. Ritualistic and intimate live performances with bassist Mihkel Mälgand, attracting packed houses in their home country, have taken the duo to the prestigious stages of major cities such as London, Berlin and others, where authentic melodies performed in English and Estonian are a thrill for all.
"The fusion of jazz, folk and pop music with the thoughtful arrangements of these exceptional musicians takes us to another world for a while," London Jazz described Kadri Voorand's performance.
"Voorand touches the body and soul of people," London Jazz News said.
"Kadri Voorand is very human, very close to all people. ... Whether she's playing piano, violin or barely touching the piano with her thumb, the audience memorises every note and, when asked to join in, sings along with the artist."
"Voorand's interpretations ranged from whispers, jokes, and romantic murmurings to smooth, intimate storytelling. Even the untranslated language was clear," declared All about jazz.
Music Award-winning Mihkel Mälgand is one of the most active double bass players in Estonia. He has collaborated with jazz greats Kurt Elling, Nils Landgren, Dave Liebman and others. Mälgand has recorded an album together with Voorand called "Duet with Mihkel Mälgand".
Kadri and Mihkel have a strong feel for the rhythm of each other's music on stage, which makes their improvisations sound like a harmonious, well-matched duet. Familiar pop melodies and virtuosic, highly professional technique reach into the hearts of the audience. Powerful, heart-rending ballads in the duo's programme are accompanied by rhythmic hip-hop beats, which are accompanied by a completely unique sound of sounds, their turns and unexpected, bold lyrics. Together they have performed at many events in Estonia and abroad, as well as at prestigious festivals.
In Lithuania, the duo of Estonian music goddess Kadri Voorand will perform three concerts in October: on the 26th - at the St Catherine's Church in Vilnius, on the 27th - at the Klaipėda Concert Hall, and on the 28th - at Kaunas Philharmonic Hall.
