Event description
Have you ever noticed a falling leaf on a tree? What pirouettes does it make when it is whipped by a gust of wind? How gracefully do plants stretch out to see the sunlight? How do the branches sway with the changing seasons? The Klaipėda Puppet Theatre Educational Centre has temporarily housed a fantastic botany laboratory, where you will be able not only to watch the choreographic performances of the newly created robot plants, but also to make your own invention.
Vladas Suntsov and his work were already presented at the "Active Spaces" masterclass in spring 2022. Vladas Suncovas is an artist who creates spaces. A 2013 graduate of the Royal Danish Academy of Visual Arts, he has been working professionally for more than ten years on installations, scenography, exhibition displays, architecture, design objects, and pedagogical projects. In 2021, together with Lithuanian Space Agency, he designed the Lithuanian Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale. Suntsov often uses a variety of modular and transformable constructions. In recent years, he has been working more and more on public art projects.
The exhibition is intended for everyone from the age of 4 years, but the author of the exhibition notes that "The exhibition will be relevant to all those who are interested in contemporary art, contemporary technologies, who are curious to learn about the secret life and biomechanics of plants. Biomechanics is one of the more important concepts describing this exhibition. It is a field of mechanics inspired by biology: we know that a lot of robotic technology is based on the animal world - we have seen robots that run like dogs, drones that mimic the flight of birds, submersibles that mimic the movement of fish. But we can create robots that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing, inspired by the plant world."
