Under the Wings of Sorrow
This is the name of a painting by Samuel Bak, a famous artist from Vilnius. In the days when I wrote my work for the ensemble "Vilniaus arsenalas", Lithuania was saying goodbye to its symbol - the Lithuanian singer Virgilijus Noreika... Death does not stop anyone, no matter how wide his wings are in this life.It seemed to me that the title of Samuel Bak's painting would be a very appropriate one for my work as well, and it would inspire me to think about the beauty and fragility of life. Anatoly Senderov
With his tango "Shooting Star" for viola and piano T. Makacin describes it as a popular work performed by ensembles of various compositions. The creation of the transcription of "Falling Stars" for viola and piano was initiated by the spiritus movens of the ensemble "Vilniaus arsenalas" viola virtuoso Rolandas Romoslauskas, who wanted to diversify the ensemble's repertoire with pieces of an entertaining nature. The passionate frenzy of tango and the emotional warmth of the viola timbre, the enchanting melody, accompanied by crystalline piano passages, merge into a harmonious flow of motifs and figures characteristic of the tango dance, which, we hope, will excite the imagination of the audience," the composer says.
