A adult puppet grotesque "King Ubu"
Based on the play by Alfredo Jarry
The King Nebula by the pioneer of the Absaurd Theatre, Alfred Jarry, is a chrestomatical work in the history of puppetry, which has not been performed at the Doll's Theatre. For the first time, it was taken up by Neville Tranter, one of the most renowned puppet theatre creators and teachers of contemporary European puppet theatre - a director, actor and artist from the Netherlands, working together with four actors from Lėla's theatre and well-known Lithuanian theatre creators - the composer Faustus Latėnas and the dramatist Vaiva Grainyte.
It is inevitable that the grotesque characters of King Ubu, who have been brought back to life in the Little Lėla Hall and who are seeking control and power in ridiculous ways, will be linked to the political events of the world today. However, as the director points out, the most important thing in this play is the relationships between people: Pa Ubu and Ma Ubu are husband and wife, and there is also a 14-year-old teenager who doesn't want to be a king... So in this humorous muppet puppet show, the audience will be invited to laugh not only at the characters they see, but also with them.
Neville Tranter is the founder, leader and only permanent member of the original Stuffed Puppet Theatre, creating shows for adults and children with muppets, which he calls the best actors. His work is characterised by an individual and recognisable style, for which he has received numerous awards at international festivals in Germany, Italy, the Czech Republic, Croatia and elsewhere.
