The title of the exhibition is "Accumulate. Preserve. Disclose" is not a coincidence that it resembles a police motto. This time, we present the collection of the Vilnius Museum, where exhibits are often like clues that help reconstruct the history of the citizens of Vilnius and the city itself. A portsigar tells the story of the resettlement of Polish Vilniusers to Poland in the post-war period, while a vinegar bottle tells the story of one of the city's oldest still-operating companies, Vilniaus vodtinė (Vilnius Vodka).
While the museum's investigators often play the role of detectives. They look for clues in the details, interview witnesses, establish connections between objects, events and people, and recreate forgotten stories. In this exhibition you will find 36 "cases", cracked and not yet cracked.
This exhibition takes you behind the scenes and tells you how the museum works. How do the exhibits come into being? What do the museum staff do? Who is behind the doors marked "Stop"? What does the main activity of museums as defined in the law - "collecting, preserving, conserving, restoring, researching and promoting" - actually look like?
The museum's collection contains objects and stories related to Vilnius: objects, images, documents and stories. Starting empty-handed, over three years we have collected more than two thousand small and large "clues" to Vilnius life. Most of the items were donated.
Thank you to the donors of the Vilnius Museum, who enrich the Museum's collection with their gifts, and we invite you to join their ranks:
