The exhibition, dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the birth of M. K. Čiurlionis, invites visitors to embark on a journey that reveals the worlds of two artists - M. K. Čiurlionis and K. Švainauskas - united by their Lithuanian identity and cultural ties. Švainauskas's works combine a realistic style with a subtle respect for history. His prints, created using woodcut and linoleum techniques, are characterised by a clear composition, meticulous line drawing and an aesthetic of black and white areas. The artist was an active promoter of Lithuanian culture in Poland: he was a long-time artistic editor of the Lithuanian newspaper "Aušra", and contributed to the commemoration of M. K. Čiurlionis. His efforts led to the creation of memorial plaques to M.K. Čiurlionis in Warsaw and Pustelnik, and he later commemorated these historical sites in his own engravings. The exhibition "Čiurlionis' Footsteps, Švainauskas' Eyes" features works by Švainauskas created while travelling in the footsteps of M. K. Čiurlionis in Lithuania and Poland. The works on display come from the collection of the M. K. Čiurlionis House-Museum and were donated to the Museum by the artist himself. This exhibition not only tells the story of M. K. Čiurlionis' world, but also reveals Švainauskas' contribution to the promotion of Lithuanian culture in Poland. It is an artistic dialogue between Lithuanian and Polish cultures, heritage and history, inviting to make sense of the common journey of both artists. The exhibition will take place at the M. K. Čiurlionis House-Museum (M. K. Čiurlionis str. 35, Druskininkai) until 12 March.
