Ansis Epnero's very first documentaries, Alive and Night Flight, already show the director's special expressiveness in documentary reality and editing. Epnero's colourful field of interest also encompassed various artistic fields, and he was a regular contributor to the film magazine "Art". The film "Lielvarde Tape" marked the beginning of a new phase in his career: his interest in ancient signs and symbols. The film became particularly important in the 1980s, during Latvia's national revival. "Latvia - My Home is a perfect example of performativity, an important aspect of Epner's work: he turns a film about Latvia for a foreign audience into a thrilling journey of a film crew in a horse-drawn carriage.
