"One of Europe's leading piano trios" - The Jazz Man
"One of the most enchanting musicians I've heard in a long time" - Jazz Journal
"Sophisticated playing, like that of Bill Evans and Bob Stenson, who pull the emotion out of the keys. Feelings that a winter traveller experiences on endless roads of memories" - Bad Alchemy (DE)
Kjetil Mulelid is a Norwegian pianist who stands out as an inventive artist, combining jazz, psalms and improvised music in his playing and compositions. In order to tell a story in each musical phrase, he treats each song as a white canvas and "paints" melodies and natural rhythmic beats in a playful music.
A graduate of the famous Trondheim Conservatory in 2014, he has been actively performing in various places around the world with his music and projects. He has played concerts in most of Europe and Japan and has released several acclaimed albums.
Over the years, Mulelid has played and collaborated with many great musicians such as Arve Henriksen, Jason Moran, Barry Guy, Trygve Seim, Mats Eilertsen, Audun Kleive, Kirsti Huke, Ola Kvernberg, Eirik Hegdal, Sissel Vera Pettersen, Rob Waring and Petter Vågan.
The trio, featuring musicians from some of Norway's most exciting jazz bands, such as Norway's Grammy-winning Hegge and the nominated Megalodon Collective, Wako and the Trondheim Jazz Orchestra, play modern acoustic jazz, with a blend of Kjetil Mulelid's compositions and pure collective improvisation.
The debut album of Kjetil Mulelid's trio was released at the end of 2017 on Norway's prestigious label Rune Grammofon, known for the best experimental electronic, jazz, and improvisational music from Scandinavia. Since the release of their first album, the trio has established themselves as one of Norway's most prominent jazz musicians with an active touring programme throughout most of Europe. Their second album, What You Thought Was Home, was released in August 2019 on the same label to great acclaim. Pianist Kjetil Mulelid's compositions perfectly combine energetic, rhythmically complex and harmonically rich music with beautiful, moving melodies. And at JazzCellar11, the trio will present music from their third album.
