Event description
The curve of Savanorių Avenue cuts through the south-western part of Vilnius and eventually crosses the city boundary. However, before it enters the roundabout's centrifuge, the road takes a short, but distinctive, stretch called Krasnucha. How many citizens or visitors have heard this name, but never felt the need to stop, look around and see what the facades of buildings and beliefs cover? 'Krasnucha' does not exist in official documents, addresses or ballot papers. When asked, everyone draws a different perimeter of the district - as well as the atmosphere, so we chose to stay between V. Pietaris, Žemaitė, Naugardukas, Tūkstantmečio and Geležinis Vilkas Streets. However, it is not the streets, but the collective and individual experiences of the inhabitants, the specific communities and the living memory that create and sustain this district. But they are not unambiguous either. "I was not a Vilnius resident, I was a Krasnucha", says Evaldas, who grew up in the district and later moved out of it. "Krasnucha" exists as long as there are people who know and live it. In this exhibition, we invite you to leave the main avenue - Savanorių Avenue - and, with the words of locals, historical material and works of art, travel through the courtyards of the district, which have been changing shape and form during different periods. And then experience them first-hand - the exhibition is complemented by a specially designed self-guided walking route. The exhibition will be open at the Vilnius Museum (Vokiečių g. 6, Vilnius) until 28 July.
