Leo Ray holds a brush, a pen, a needle for an etching, primes a canvas or mixes paints to find the perfect shade for another act of The Human Comedy - creativity is an integral part of his daily existence. Each work can become part of a previous idea or an extension of a scene born in the imagination. On paper, whether in etchings, calligraphic drawings or sheets of colourful paper, a new plot inspired by living nature is laid out, and two-legged or four-legged characters stand out: a donkey, a bird, a dog, a cat, and, of course, a man himself. Contemplating Leo Ray's work, we look at the world through his "glasses" - he is the director of his own Human Comedy, catching the reflections of nature with a brush or a feather. Leo Ray was born in Vilnius in 1950, graduated from Vilnius University in 1973 and the Vilnius Academy of Arts in 1990. In 1991 he settled in Tel Aviv, Israel. He has taught drawing, colouring, painting and calligraphy at BASIS Art School, and currently teaches painting and calligraphy at CAN Art College (New Artists` Collegium), and has been active in group exhibitions and solo exhibitions in Israel and abroad. The Samuel Bak Museum (Naugarduko str. 10, Vilnius) will be open until 17 September.
