Maja Babič Košir is an artist based in Slovenia and Portugal whose interdisciplinary art practice encompasses sculpture, object, collage, assemblage, photography and installation. Her artistic approach is characterised by intuitiveness and psychological analysis of personal experiences. Maja Babič Košir's works are sensitive analyses of themes related to the transience of existence, memory and human relationships. Using found or inherited objects, through their formal and aesthetic qualities, the artist creates intimate works, assessing and analysing the relationship with their original owners.
In the exhibition Ciao Amore, Maja Babič Košir will present installations and collages created from objects that belonged to her parents. The artist divides the gallery space into two narratives, in which inner experiences and relationships with others are revealed through material forms of existence. Analysing her father's artistic legacy, the artist has combined discarded pages, drafts, envelopes and other materials into collages, which during the creative process became a metaphor for coming to terms with loss. The intangible value of the remaining objects of a loved one is contrasted with the aimless accumulation, often associated with negative experiences, anxiety and fear of lack. The unused objects accumulated by the mother have no emotional significance for the family members and become a reflection of the complex inner conflicts of the individual. Through the links to her parents' objects, the artist reveals and reassesses the universally relevant bonds of family, the loss of a neighbour, love and forgiveness. Maja Babič Košir's personal stories and spiritual experiences are transformed into a visually compelling narrative that is easily interpreted by the viewer.
