Event description
Alexander is a theatrical, pompous intellectual with no job and no money. His life revolves around three women: one he hasn't stopped loving, one lives at home, and one he wants to seduce. In Parisian cafés, they chat about cinema, politics, but mostly about love and sex. Alexandre doesn't shy away from making fun of the feminist movement or the events of '68 - the provocative dialogue caused a scandal at Cannes, where the film won the Palme d'Or. Far from the improvisations of Godard, Rohmer or the optimism of Truffaut, it is a realistic portrait of France in 1973, when the country was in the throes of an economic crisis, sexual issues were still taboo, and there was a growing disillusionment in the collective consciousness that society had not changed after 68. The film is based on the life of Jean Eustache himself. N-16
