Event description
In the first edition of BISONTE, choreographer Marco da Silva Ferreira will present his work CARCAÇA. The choreography of this dance piece starts with the movement of the feet, before the dancers gradually begin to put together a lively, rebellious and carnivalesque performance.
The company, made up of ten dancers including Marco da Silva Ferreira himself, is a team that physically, intuitively and unpretentiously explores its collective identity, piecing together a performance from elements of the body, dance and culture.
Sophisticated steps, performed with simple sneakers, will bring not only the sound to the stage, but also bursts of kinetic, thermal and light energy. The physical sounds are accompanied by the sound of João Pais Filipe's drums and Luís Pestana's electronic music. These live elements form an accelerated soundtrack that intertwines traditional music (e.g., fanfares and marches), postmodern music and club music (techno trance, dub).
The choreography for CARCAÇA was inspired by 2020. CORPOS DE BAILE, created in 2020 with the Companhia Nacional de Bailado, was the starting point for the collective's research, which allowed them to analyse the relationship between identity and leg movements.
Marco da Silva Ferreira was born in Santa Maria da Feira in 1986. He started training in 1996, when he took up professional swimming. In 2002 he gave it up and concentrated on bodywork in the performing arts. His path has been self-taught, exploring dance styles that are common in urban contexts and originate from Africa. Between 2002 and 2010, the direction and vocabulary of dance became increasingly diverse and closer to contemporary improvisational tools and composition. In 2010, he won the television competition "So You Think You Can Dance - Portugal".
The performance Brother (2016) established the artist's discourse as an author, reflecting on dance and its meaning in the contemporary world. In his work, he makes connections to the origins of dance and draws a line that is defined by the contemporary body.
In 2018-2019 Marco was Associate Artist at Teatro Municipal do Porto, and in 2019-2021 he became Associate Artist at the Centre Chorégraphique National de Caen in Normandy.
