After an eight-year break, the charismatic accordion virtuoso Martynas Levickis returns to the Midsummer Vilnius stage. On the evening of 23 July, in the Grand Courtyard of the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania, he will perform passionate music that can be heard in the world's best, most prestigious concert halls.
The stage artist, who is performing less and less often in Lithuania, promises that the only show dedicated to Vilnius music lovers this summer will be different. It will be more intimate, more filled with the old town.
The storm encoded in the title of the concert refers to one of the most famous musical masterpieces of all time - Antonio Lucio Vivaldi's cycle "The Four Seasons "*, which will form the heart of this performance. The unexpected musical layers of the summer evening will be added by the interludes of Lithuanian folk songs arranged by the virtuoso himself.
Martynas Levickis, who has a successful international career in Germany, became a visiting professor at the Royal Academy of Music in London last year and was awarded the prestigious "Opus Klassik" Music Award - Instrumentalist of the Year.
The virtuoso, who has a heart for classical and popular music, chooses bright programmes and modern scenography for his performances, often experimenting with his stage amplitude and looking for unexpected musical connections.
His concerts combine Hollywood hits and melodies from centuries past, which he performs on the accordion, an unusual instrument from the folklore genre. In fact, in concerts Martynas Levickis can be heard playing the piano, performing a vocal ballad, even conducting an orchestra.
By the way, the virtuoso will also appear on the stage of "Midsummer Vilnius" together with the chamber orchestra of young musicians - "Mikroorkéstra".
