"Medea" is a striking production of a classical drama at the Telšiai Žemaitė Drama Theatre. The play invites us to step out of the black box and turn towards each other. The premiere, staged in the open-air amphitheatre of the city of Telšiai, explores the decisions and relationships of a specific individual and how this affects the whole environment. The play is full of music, like a search for the inner voice of the human being, which is supposed to be a guide through difficulties. The work is about miscommunication with oneself, with family, seeking help and being left alone with very difficult decisions. The current times are breaking up families for various reasons: members of the same family choose to watch different media and news channels, choose to support different sides in military conflicts, close themselves off in various social bubbles. In this way, we often overlook the tragic mental state of those around us and choose not to help, not to support, but to turn away, sometimes even to take revenge. And while we courageously choose to create our own personal destinies, we close ourselves off from the unpleasantness around us. It is an uncomfortable paradox. This performance is a brave stop for reflection on how we live, how we create relationships around us. And especially the burden that women bear in the construction of the family hearth. "Medea is a performance based on Greek and Kartvelian myths, a classic Euripides play and the contemporary interpretations of the creative team.
The project aims to integrate the methods of applied theatre. Therefore, we invite the audience to a free drama therapy session at the beginning of September 2024, as well as to stay for a post-performance discussion on the opening days (7, 8, 13 September ).
