The Kaunas Woman of the Year is a social project organised by the daily newspaper Kauno diena for the twelfth year, during which the citizens of Kaunas choose the woman who has most deserved the honour for Kaunas in the social, public, academic or cultural spheres during the previous year. The top ten candidates who received the most votes in the public vote can be seen at a gala event held annually at the Kaunas State Music Theatre. During the event, the candidates present themselves and are awarded various prizes.
The Kaunas State Musical Theatre performers honour the candidates with a musical programme specially prepared for this day.
