Stephen King's novel Misery has been considered one of the most brilliant and masterful thrillers for almost 40 years, and the story of a writer and his ardent admirer has successfully made its way to the cinema screen and theatre stage. The play can be described as a drama, a romance of passion, an action-packed story centred on the survivor of a car crash, the writer Paul Sheldon, and the "fanatical admirer" Anne Wilkes, who rescues him. Paul Sheldon finds himself in the remote home of his admirer in a world of pathology, nightmares, madness - a situation that seems to have been taken from his books.
