Ričards Jankauskas' lecture on the emergence and flourishing of modern music in the 20th century and its historical musical context
Why did the early 20th century see the increasing abandonment of the single key and the equal importance of all 12 sounds in music? Why did the Austrians and Americans become the most prominent musical innovators of the first half of the 20th century? And why did the Austrian Arnold Schoenberg and the American Charles Ives, who revolutionised academic music, start on different continents, but at the same time and independently of each other?
About these pioneers of modern or expressionist music, who enriched the musical language with dissonance, atonality, polytonality, polymetry, polyrhythmia, clusters and "broken" melodies, about the emergence and flourishing of modern music, and about the whole historical musical history of the 20th century. Lecturer Ričardas Jankauskas will introduce the audience to the musical context of modern music, using the most characteristic musical examples and juxtaposing music with the most famous works of art and architecture.
