Welcome to a lecture on South Indian classical music and dance. This is one of the two great traditions of Indian classical music, with an incredible variety of harmonies and rhythms, and a wealth of vocal and instrumental timbres.

This lecture will introduce you to the traditional musical instruments of South India: vyna, mirdang, ghat, kanjira, nadaswaram, etc. We will discuss the most important genres of music and dance and meet the most famous composers and performers of this music. South Indian music and dance is closely linked to Hinduism and traditional Hindu deities, and has often been performed in the spacious open-air temples of South India.

This lecture will be given by Dr. Eirim Velička, who has been studying Indian musical culture for more than 30 years, and who has been to India five times. The musicologist will share his travel experiences and insights. The lecture is illustrated with unique audio and video recordings.
Eirim Velička is a music teacher, violinist, ethnomusicologist. During his studies he became interested in Lithuanian ethnic music and traditional music of World cultures. He was greatly influenced by his acquaintance with the composer Julius Juzeliūnas, who encouraged him to delve deeper into the field of ethnic music. He has visited India, Turkey, Brazil, India and Japan.

The event takes place in the premises of "Etnoerdvi" in Raitininkų str. 2-3 (entrance from the courtyard side through the door hidden behind green bushes and bushes).
