Lithuanian and Ukrainian sound designers and dancers collaborate on NEMIGA, a performance set in rocket-ridden Lviv, a war-torn city that has retreated from the dangers of war to Paris, and a relief and relief effort in Lithuania. Several months of the creative process in isolation and only visible on the Zoom platform, not even knowing if the performance will finally be shown live. This creative process has been a long time coming for the four creators, Yana Shliabanska and Mariya Salo from Ukraine, and Donatas Bielkauskas and Petras Lisauskas from Lithuania.
The idea of insomnia has become the creative axis of this performance. The idea of bringing together artists with different backgrounds and reflecting on their experience of insomnia and anxiety in the face of war was conceived by producer Godai Giedraityte and sound artist Donatas Bielkauskas. In collaboration with Viktor Ruban, a dance artist and producer from Ukraine, two Ukrainian artists were invited to join the project.
Yana Shliabanska and Donatas Bielkauskas created their sound interpretations of the theme and personal experiences in Paris, where they had retreated to after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine and Klaipėda respectively. Their very strong music became the basis for the choreographic solutions of the two dancers. Petras Lisauskas rehearsed in Molėtai and Mariya in rocket-filled Lviv.
