Event description
"Uncomfortable Vilnius" tells the story of the city's inhabitants, who are shrouded in superstition and stereotypes, and whom we hardly know, and therefore often avoid, sometimes even fear. This is an exhibition about people who, according to surveys, Vilnius residents would rather not see. And about the beliefs that fuel conflicts and make life difficult. Ten fictional characters from the past and the present tell their life stories and reveal themes that do not seem to fit the picture of an ideal city. These stories are usually told by the media, so the voices of the characters themselves are usually not heard. The exhibition's look into the past reveals that there are certain challenges that citizens have been facing since a very long time ago and that some things are very difficult to change. The story of an uncomfortable Vilnius was invented last year when we celebrated the anniversary of the city's commemoration. Back then, we talked only about the beautiful features of Vilnius. Now that the celebration is over, it's time to get back to reality, to remember what we don't mention on our birthdays, to accept even an uncomfortable city as our own. The Vilnius Museum (Vokiečių g. 6, Vilnius) will be open until 30 December.
