O. Kovalchuk's exhibition of glass icons from the collection of the Ukrainian Radomyshlis Castle. Twenty-two glass icons, created in the first decade of the 21st century in Vinnitsa (Ukraine), present for the first time in Lithuania a contemporary approach of Ukrainian artists to the historical tradition of sacred art of this region. The works, which have come to Lithuania like the Ukrainians who fled the war, are colourful, as if linked by chance and fate. They may not be the most beautiful, some of them may be intended for restoration rather than exhibition, but they have a specific mission at the moment - to become a place of spiritual respite, first of all, for Ukrainians temporarily living in Lithuania. The idea of transferring at least some of the Ukrainian art treasures to Lithuania, which was born during the war, was realised by the owner of the collection, the founder of the Ukrainian House Museum of Icons and Antiquities "Spirit of Ukraine", Olga Bogomolets, and the director of the museum, Yuriy Rudnitsky, together with the Honorary Ambassador of the Anykščiai region to the Ukraine, Virginius Strolia. The cycle of exhibitions, which aims to cover all museums in the country, is an expression of solidarity between Ukraine and Lithuania. The exhibition will be on display at the Utena Museum of Regional History (3 Utena Avenue, Utena) until 12 October.
